Book a Checkup

Once the school year starts, schedules fill up with homework and extracurricular activities. That’s why it’s a good idea to book a dental checkup for your children now, before school starts. Having a healthy smile is a great way to start the school year!

Making Teeth-Friendly Meal Choices

Serving teeth-friendly foods helps avoid tooth decay, but also protects and strengthens the enamel on your child’s teeth. Some of the best teeth-friendly foods for kids include dairy products, such as cheese and yogurt, and fruits and vegetables. Here are some other tips:

  • Switch breakfast cereals filled with sugar for healthier options
  • Choose tooth-friendly snacks for lunch, such as fruits or crackers with cheese or peanut butter
  • Avoid serving sugary drinks and treats

Help Your Child Brush Up on Healthy Habits

Remind your children to brush their teeth at least twice every day. You can include a mini dental kit in your child’s backpack, so they can brush during the school day.

Also, replace old toothbrushes about every three months. That’s because bristles begin to break down and become less effective at cleaning your child’s teeth.

Tips for Teachers

If you’re a teacher of younger children, you can encourage kids to bring a toothbrush and toothpaste to school to brush their teeth before class every morning.
