Meet Dr Arun Jose Kachapilly
BDS, MDS (Periodontology and Oral Implantology)
Periodontist and Implantologist
Dr Arun brings more than 15 years of experience in periodontics and implant dentistry to Mills Dental Care in Port Moresby and has placed more than 5,000 dental implants during his career. He has a particular interest in full mouth dental implants, All-on-4 and All-on-6 treatment, as well as the health of the gums and bone that support the teeth.
His work includes caring for patients with missing teeth, loose dentures or gum disease. Dr Arun takes a calm, careful approach and makes time to explain the available options before treatment begins.
Education and Training
Dr Arun earned his Bachelor of Dental Surgery from Government Dental College, Mumbai in 2007. He later completed a Master of Dental Surgery in Periodontology and Oral Implantology at Mar Baselios Dental College, with postgraduate training focused on the gums, supporting structures of the teeth and dental implants.
His further training has included CBCT analysis for implant planning, direct and indirect sinus lift techniques, soft tissue aesthetics in implantology and lasers in dentistry. He has also attended implantology workshops through the Indian Society of Periodontology and completed Basic Life Support training.
Implant and Gum Care at Mills Dental Care
Dr Arun provides a range of implant and periodontal treatments, including:
- Single and multiple tooth implants
- All-on-4 and All-on-6 full mouth implants
- Implant-supported dentures
- Immediate loading implants
- Bone grafting and sinus lift procedures
- Laser gum treatment, flap surgery and gum contouring procedures
Implant cases are planned using 3D CBCT imaging, providing detailed information about the bone and surrounding structures before surgery. For some patients, immediate loading may allow temporary teeth to be fitted on the same day as implant surgery. Suitability depends on factors such as bone, gum health and general health, which Dr Arun assesses as part of the treatment-planning process.
Experience, Research and Teaching
Before moving to Papua New Guinea, Dr Arun spent more than a decade working as a consultant periodontist and implantologist in India. His professional background also includes dental research and education.
He received first prizes from the Society of Periodontists in Kerala in 2012 and 2013 for clinical presentations. In 2014, he received third prize at the All India Postgraduate Convention for research examining diode laser irradiation and chlorhexidine in the management of chronic periodontitis.
Dr Arun has contributed to research published in dental journals, including the Journal of Clinical and Diagnostic Research, Journal of Indian Society of Periodontology and Journal of Indian Dental Association. He has also served as dental faculty, taught and trained dental students, and presented at dental conferences and seminars.
He is a lifetime member of the Indian Society of Oral Implantologists and the Indian Dental Association.
